Hope Terris

EUCHARIST

I watch while breakfasting
My cat in the yard
His black fur glistening
Against the rose blossoms
And verdant green
Of June

I eat    sharing
Toast and Irish butter with the puppy
Worshiping at my feet
Such devotion

I break open a clementine
A scent of sunshine permeates the air
And the parrot moves to the
Edge of his cage
Taking my offering
Gently
So we can partake
Together

Such is my
Communion
On a summer morning

Hope Terris lives and works on Long Island. She teaches college students English and Creative Writing. She enjoys painting and drawing as well as writing.
